In a statement issued by party Secretary General Kentse Rammidi, the opposition party paid tribute to Shamukuni as a lifelong servant of the people who dedicated his career to advancing both party and national interests.

“The BDP is saddened to announce the passing on of former Member of Central Committee, Machana Ronald Shamukuni, following illness,” Rammidi said. Describing him as a committed cadre, the BDP said Shamukuni was “a thorough bred politician who gave his life to public service,” rising steadily through the ranks from a youth activist to one of the party’s senior figures.

Over the years, Shamukuni held several key roles including BDP youth activist, National Youth Executive Committee member, councillor, MP, Assistant Minister, Minister, and Central Committee member, a trajectory that underscored his deep-rooted influence within the party. In what would become his final assignment, Shamukuni was in January 2025 appointed to serve in the Governance, Peace and Security Portfolio Committee of the BDP.

“He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and dedication to the cause of the Party which is also the cause of the people. The Honourable Shamukuni will be missed and fondly remembered,” Rammidi said as he reflected on Shamukuni's contribution.

The BDP further extended its condolences to his loved ones and the broader political community.

Shamukuni’s death marks the end of a long and distinguished political journey, with colleagues and supporters expected to remember him as a disciplined and loyal party man who remained steadfast in service until his final days.
