Ahead of the BBA's annual general meeting last weekend, treasurer Kegomoditswe Shoshong, quit and left without presenting the sport's financial report.
Speaking to Mmegi Sport, she confirmed her resignation, stating that she could not go into details behind her decision.
Shoshong explained that she said submitted her resignation to the badminton’s leadership but they did not acknowledge receiving it.
“They have not responded to say that they have received my letter. “I do not know what that means but I had thought they would say something,” she said.
For his part, BBA president, Modisaotsile Badubi confirmed they have separated with Shoshong and her last day in the office coincided with the AGM on March 28.
He said the general membership was informed about the treasurer’s departure at the AGM. “There were no problems between us and her as far as we are concerned. She felt that the timelines proposed in our finance policy would make it difficult for her to continue balancing work and BBA, so she resigned,” Badubi highlighted.
“The executive committee will soon announce a co-opted replacement, as per our constitution. The individual will then be presented to the members at the next AGM for confirmation.”
However, Shoshong said it was untrue that she was not going to be able to handle the proposed BBA financial timelines. Sources, however, point to an acrimonious separation with accusations traded.
The BAA hosted the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in February and the fall-out is alleged emanates from the event. It is said that the executive did not disclose tournament sponsors to members during the AGM.
“During the AGM, the financial report was not presented because the treasurer had resigned. What surprised us was that a financial report was submitted to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as well as to the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC),” the source further said.
Meanwhile, BONA spokesperson, Regent Pitso confirmed the association’s treasurer, Onicah Letshwenyo-Ramocha's departure.
Letshwenyo-Ramocha has reportedly joined Women and Sport Botswana.
