Seven men in court for gang ‘raping’ female athlete

Five of the seven men appeared before Village magistrate, Tshepo Thedi, yesterday. According to their charge sheet, the seven men, Thabang Lesaumako, Bokamoso Ralotsia, Tumelo Letsapa, Daniel Gideon, and Kgosimolao Aobakwe, are accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the athlete without her consent.
The other two are yet to be served. In court yesterday, after their charge sheet was read out to them, the accused persons remained silent when asked if they had anything to say. The state did not oppose their bail on the condition that they report to court whenever required.
In court, the presiding magistrate asked the state why it had taken them almost three years to bring the matter before the court, to which the prosecutor responded that there had been delays in finalising DNA samples. The case continues.
