Premier League title sponsors, FNB Botswana, in partnership with the Botswana Football League (BFL), emphasised integrity, quality journalism and collaboration as cornerstones of a thriving football ecosystem. FNBB public relations and communications manager, Boga Chilinde-Masebu, told the gathering the importance of proper storytelling in the development of the local league.

“We want to encourage you to tell stories that build the game. It is players, administrators, and communities. Embrace accuracy, context, and public insights, because the narratives you shape protect football and elevate it to its true value,' she said.

Chilinde-Masebu highlighted the broader impact of football as she said the game is not just a sport.

She said it is international development and changes lives, empowers youth, strengthens communities, develops our nation, and even contributes to the economy.

The PR specialist urged journalists to uphold integrity, verify information, and strive for excellence.

“Although the game can never be perfect, we can always aim for flawlessness. Your reporting shapes public perception, builds credibility, and ultimately, shapes the future of our national game,' she added.

Chilinde-Masebu also called for active engagement and collaboration.

She said: “Together, as one, we can enrich the Premiership, raise standards, and ensure that football remains a force for unity and development in Botswana.”

BFL acting CEO, Idah Moinisi, praised the collaboration and highlighted the league’s commitment to professional and transparent football governance.

“We rely on the media to tell the real story of Botswana football. Accurate reporting strengthens our league, protects players and officials, and ensures that fans can trust the game,” she said.

“This partnership with FNB is about raising standards, promoting integrity, and growing football as both a sport and a business.”

The session also combined practical media training with financial literacy and fraud awareness, equipping journalists to tell local football stories with impact.

MmegiSport editor, Mqondisi Dube, led an introductory journalism exercise, a major throwback to the foundations of sports reporting.

With FNB Botswana driving investment, media empowerment, and integrity initiatives, and the BFL committed to transparent governance, the country’s football ecosystem is set to grow stronger on the field, in the headlines, and in communities nationwide.
