Tlou calls for 'men's' wing

Contributing to the President's opening of parliament speech yesterday, Tlou, a former Minister of Health, said she was not impressed that the leadership of political parties across the spectrum is dominated by men. She said men dominate central committees while they assign the youth and women to inconsequential bodies called women and youth wings.

This dominance gives men the leeway to behave as if the parties are theirs.'Why can't we have the men's wing,' she asked rhetorically.

She said it was surprising that even though women were eclipsed from the mainstream matters of the party they still call the party theirs.

When asked by Gaborone North MP, Keletso Rakhudu how these wings would obviate male dominance, the MP said in her book all the three bodies would hold elections that would equally contribute members to the central committee.

Tlou said she was excited and hopeful that the health hub will lead to progress in that sector.

Quizzed by Gaborone Central MP, Dumelang Saleshando on how it will improve the health sector, Tlou said the hub will improve the sector in the area of research.
