Jao Reserve Seeks Concession & Operations Managers

Nestled deep within the heart of the Okavango Delta, the Jao Reserve is one of Botswana’s most exclusive and ecologically diverse concessions. Encompassing luxury safari lodges including Jao, Kwetsani, Tubu Tree, Little Tubu, and Jacana, this pristine wilderness offers world-class wildlife experiences and is supported by sophisticated behind-the-scenes operations.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking a dynamic Management Couple or highly experienced individuals to take on the role of Concession Managers / Operations & Logistics Managers for the Jao Reserve. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for the oversight of all operational, logistical, maintenance, staff, and infrastructure management across multiple camps within the concession. The ideal candidates will bring a minimum of 5–10 years of experience in high-end remote lodge or safari operations, with a proven track record of strategic leadership, multi-site coordination, logistical excellence, and people management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT
• Direct oversight of all camp operations across the Jao Reserve (currently 5 lodges).
• Ensure seamless delivery of guest experience by supporting camp managers in all departments (front of house, housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance, etc.).
• Implement and maintain operational standards, safety protocols, and service excellence.
LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
• Coordinate weekly/monthly procurement, distribution, and stock control between head office, Maun base, and all camps.
• Manage delivery schedules for fuel, rations, guest supplies, maintenance parts, and beverages.
• Monitor Nebula (or similar systems) for efficient tracking of movement and inventory across the concession.
• Liaise with suppliers, freight companies, and internal logistics team to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
• Mentor and support camp managers and heads of department to maintain morale, accountability, and performance.
• Actively participate in HR processes including recruitment, training, succession planning, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions where necessary.
• Promote a culture of respect, ownership, and pride within the entire concession team.
INFRASTRUCTURE & ASSET MANAGEMENT
• Oversee all maintenance schedules, preventative planning, and repair works for staff villages, guest infrastructure, vehicles, boats, and generators.
• Coordinate with engineers and specialists on larger infrastructure projects (water, solar, IT networks, plumbing, etc.).
• Maintain updated inventories of concession assets, tools, and capital items.
ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING
• Submit structured weekly and monthly reports to Head Office and Directors (HR, financials, logistics, maintenance, etc.).
• Monitor budgets and reduce operational wastage.
• Enforce compliance with camp SOPs and company protocols.
ENVIRONMENTAL & CONSERVATION STANDARDS
• Work alongside eco-guides and concession stakeholders to ensure minimal environmental footprint.
• Support anti-poaching initiatives, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5–10 years experience in senior operational roles in remote luxury lodge or safari camp environments.
• Strong logistical coordination background, especially in areas with challenging access and multiple stakeholders.
• Proven team leadership and multi-departmental management experience.
• Technical understanding of infrastructure systems (solar, generator, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanics).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
• Sound financial understanding with budgeting, procurement, and reporting experience.
• Computer literacy – Nebula or similar stock/logistics systems; Excel, email reporting, etc.
• Valid driver’s license essential; 4x4 driving experience preferred.
• Couples must both bring relevant, complementary skills to the position (e.g., one person operational/logistics, one person HR/guest service/systems management).
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
• Wilderness First Aid or medical response training.
• Botswana work/residence permits or SADC citizenship highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of the Okavango Delta and its logistical challenges.
• Passion for conservation and a deep understanding of the safari hospitality landscape.
