According to an introductory press release from the company, EIMC is Botswana's newly established institution responsible for the modernisation, professional management, and long-term sustainability of public-school infrastructure across the country.

“EIMC marks a major milestone in advancing the quality of learning environments nationwide,” the ministry states.

The institution has been mandated to provide unified, professional oversight of the infrastructure and operational systems that support teaching and learning. This includes responsibility for: 779 primary schools, 207 junior secondary schools, two unified secondary schools, and 32 senior secondary schools.

The mandate covers infrastructure development, refurbishment, modernisation, digitalisation, preventative and responsive maintenance, and school facilities management.

“This national approach ensures consistency, efficiency, and equitable service delivery across all regions,” the ministry says.

EIMC is structured as an SPV, wholly owned by the Government of Botswana. The company operates under a board-led governance model that enables operational autonomy whilst maintaining strong oversight, accountability, and transparency.

The board members include Dorcas Kgosietsile, Mothusi Mashumba, Sanga Namoshe, Thato Norman, Tebogo Sebego, Segametsi Sethantsho, and Leah Uananisa.

“This governance structure supports professional decision-making, reduces administrative delays, and strengthens long-term planning for infrastructure sustainability,” says the ministry.

EIMC's mission is centred on enhancing the environments where teaching and learning take place. The institution's work is expected to improve: Classroom quality and safety; School maintenance reliability; Water, sanitation, and electricity systems; ICT infrastructure and digital learning readiness; Accessibility, security, and overall school functionality.

“The establishment of EIMC supports Botswana’s long-term development goals under the National Development Plan 12 and the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP). Modern and sustainable school infrastructure forms a critical foundation for human capital development and national competitiveness,” the ministry states.

President Advocate Duma Boko announced over the weekend that all schools across the country will be refurbished as part of government efforts to improve public infrastructure.

Speaking during the National Cleanup Campaign launch in Gaborone, Boko said the government had established a special company that would be responsible for the refurbishment and maintenance of schools and teachers’ residences.

He said the initiative formed part of the broader cleanup campaign, which went beyond litter-picking and focused on rehabilitating public spaces, improving lighting in cities, planting trees, and maintaining infrastructure to create cleaner, safer and more attractive communities.
