MECHANICAL FOREMAN - WINDERS/SHAFT SERVICES

Job Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator - Mechanical, the Mechanical Foreman-Winders and Shaft Services supervises the maintenance and repairs of shaft and winding production equipment. The position plans all aspects of mechanical, and hydraulic equipment repairs and shaft operations.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and supervise repairs, materials, tools, safe work conditions

Diagnose and repair faults on equipment and machinery in operation

Analyse breakdowns to identify the root causes

Conduct regular equipment inspections

Investigation of incidents/accidents in area of responsibility

Implement and control preventative maintenance

Spares and equipment availability

Compile technical reports, method statements and risk assessments

People effectiveness

Legal compliance

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in mechanical field.

At least 6 years post qualification maintenance experience with mine winders and shaft maintenance, with at least 3 years at supervisory level.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Knowledge and experience in the maintenance and operation of vertical shafts & wind plants, winding ropes & conveyances

Proficient in troubleshooting and reading schematics for pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical repairs.

Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and other systems.

Underground mine experience is required.

Class B Driver’s License.

FOREMAN – ELECTRICAL

Job Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator-Electrical, the Electrical Foreman is responsible for the supervision of artisans and for ensuring a safe, efficient, and productive engineering maintenance on all electrical machinery and equipment

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and supervise repairs, materials, tools, safe work conditions

Conduct regular equipment inspections

Analyse breakdowns to identify the root cause

Investigation of incidents/accidents in area of responsibility

Implement and control preventative maintenance

Spares and equipment availability

Compile technical reports, method statements and risk assessments

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in electrical field.

At least 6 years post qualification experience in a mining environment with at least 3 years at supervisory level.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Knowledge of Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations is essential.

Experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems.

Ability to troubleshoot highly automated equipment.

Underground mine experience is required.

Class B Driver’s License.

WINDER TECHNICIANS (MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator – Mechanical/Electrical, the Winder Technicians will be responsible for the inspections and maintenance (planned and predictive) of the shaft winders to ensure their safe and effective operation to meet underground mining production targets.

Key Responsibilities

Condition monitoring and reliability centered maintenance

PID controllers and electro hydraulics maintenance and troubleshooting

Equipment statutory inspections compliance

Winders and their ancillary equipment maintenance

Safety, health and environment compliance

Qualifications and Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in mechanical/electrical/electronics field.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Experience with ABB winder controls and leaky feeder communication systems.

8 years’ post qualification experience with 3 years in a similar position.

Proficient in hydraulics and pneumatics and troubleshooting.

Proficient in vibration analysis and reliability analysis concepts.

Proficient in proportional, integral and derivative control.

Conceptual and analytical skills for root cause analysis.

ARTISAN ELECTRICIAN

Job Summary

Reporting to the Foreman Electrical, the Artisan Electrician will be responsible for carrying out inspections, installations, electrical system operations and maintenance to ensure optimal performance, efficiency and safety in the area of responsibility in order to achieve underground mining production targets.

Electrical maintenance and repairs

Facilitation of shutdowns

Warehouse requisitions

Legal compliance

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in electrical field.

Minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience in mining environment.

Power generation and distribution, and network switching knowledge.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Experience in an underground mining environment will be an added advantage.

Drivers License – Class B.

ARTISAN FITTER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Foreman Mechanical, the Artisan Fitter will be responsible for maintaining underground fixed plant equipment according to sound engineering practices and equipment specifications to ensure their safe and effective operation to meet underground mining production targets.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections, maintenance and diagnosis of faults and issues of fixed plant equipment

Work in progress inspections

Recommending suitable maintenance and repair interventions to enhance performance and safety.

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in Maintenance Fitting or equivalent.

Minimum of Five (5) years post qualification experience in mining environment.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Experience with ABB winder controls and leaky feeder communication systems.

Knowledge of Scamont SP200 pumps.

Experience in water reticulation and/or handling equipment in an underground mining environment will be an added advantage.

Drivers License – Class B.

ARTISAN RIGGER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator – Mechanical, the Artisan Rigger will carry out safe lifting and movement of loads and plant machinery and inspecting and servicing lifting equipment including winding equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Rigging and scaffold services

Maintenance of mechanical equipment

Statutory inspections and load tests on all rigging and lifting equipment

Operates mine machinery

Safety, health and environment

Qualifications and Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification plus a valid Trade certificate in Rigging.

Minimum 5 years’ practical experience, with at least 3 years in a mining environment or heavy industrial plant environment, including inspection of equipment.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Experience in performing front ends and back ends winder rope inspections.

Knowledge of lifting/rigging equipment.

Truck crane operation – added advantage.

Mobile crane operation – added advantage.

Experience in working on winder ropes.

Valid Driver’s License – Class B.

WINDER ENGINE DRIVER

Job Summary

Reporting to the Control & Instrumentation Technician, the Winder Engine Driver will operate a winding engine for the transport of material, people and rock in accordance with production, mining and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Safe and effective operations of winders

Transporting of persons

Communicate winding engine defects

Basic maintenance of equipment

Daily reporting and recording of work completed

Knowledge of Mines, Quarries, Work and Machinery Regulations is essential

Safety, health and environmental compliance

Qualifications & Experience

BGCSE or equivalent qualification.

Valid Government issued Winding Engine Driver certificate.

At least 3 years experience in an underground mining environment.

At least 3 years minimum experience on DC Double Drum Winders.

Knowledge and experience in signalling communication is essential (from bank to shaft bottom).

Basic computer literacy.

Class B Driver’s License.
