Sekao and Chiswaniso are high performing competitors, having won the 2024 Zone VI Beach volleyball Tour Leg four and secured bronze medal at the 13th African Games in Ghana, still in 2024. The pair rose to the occasion and played exceptionally well, ultimately defeating Mozambique in the final to the gold medal. It was an impressive performance compared to their outing in the first Series held in Windhoek, Namibia, where the results were not as strong.
The rising pair of Trevor Mandua and Baleofi Moswiiwa, displayed great determination throughout the tournament. They progressed well in the competition before being knocked out in the quarterfinals by Mozambique.
The team will continue their preparations for upcoming international competitions, including Nordic Beach Volleyball Competition to hosted in Angola from April 5-13. There is also the CAVB Zone VI third leg and Africa Games qualifiers set for April 1-3.
Reflecting back to the Namibian tour, Sekao said the performance and approach of the tournament was influenced by preparations. He explained that in Mozambique they wanted to forget about what happened in Namibia.
“We approached the tournament with fresh mindset, we did not lose any set. From group stage we played we played two games, progressed to the quarterfinal, winning 2-0, we won semi-final 2-0 and final we hammered Mozambique 2-0,” Sekao said. Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president-Beach Volleyball, Pogiso Osupile, told Sport Monitor that the performance by the team in Mozambique was encouraging and shows clear improvement from previous competitions.
“We are proud of the effort, determination and discipline displayed by our players throughout the tournament,” he said.
“Their performance demonstrates that Beach Volleyball is progressing in the right direction and that our athletes are capable of competing strongly at the regional level. The success motivates us to work even harder as we continue building a competitive team for future international competitions.”
Osupile added their focus is to strengthen preparations and improve performance as they aim to qualify for the 2027 Africa Games to be hosted in Egypt and also position Botswana well in the qualification pathway for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
