The former national champions fell to BDF XI in a hard-fought 1-0 clash on Saturday, dropping to fourth on the log and losing ground on the league leaders.
Double Action are already feeling the strain of a packed schedule after the defeat to BDF XI at Sapolamokwatla Grounds, leaving assistant coach Kago Konege concerned about a thin squad and lingering injuries as the title race intensifies.
Double Action assistant coach, Kago Konege, openly expressed concern over the squad’s limitations following the match.
“I do not have more numbers as you can see (but) the quality of players, they can compete,” Konege said. “But in terms of numbers, I have two players nursing knee injuries so am a bit again disadvantaged. But what can we do, is the league and we have to compete, and is football is it like that.”
On the pitch, ‘Pitbull’ dominated possession with short passing, looking to unlock a resolute Carmo Girls defence. The deadlock was broken in the 37th minute when Malebogo Dumelang converted a rebound after her initial header was saved.
Despite several chances, including Precious Tlhapi’s free kick that hit the crossbar in the 73rd minute, Double Action could not find an equaliser.
The defeat comes at a tricky time for Double Action, who now face three games in 10 days, including a high-profile clash against reigning national champions Gaborone United tomorrow.
BDF XI, meanwhile, end the first round atop the standings, seven points clear of second-placed GU, with Jwaneng Galaxy moving into third. Western Zebras remain at the bottom with no points.
