Men’s relay team reports for training camp

The team joins the women’s team that has been in camp at the same venue. The athletes will be reporting for camp after brilliant performance at the Central Gauteng Athletics Provincial Championships over the weekend.

Some of the athletes who took part in the competition are Letsile Tebogo, Anthony Pesela who has made a comeback after missing in action last season, Prince Selepe, Boitumelo Masilo amongst others.

Tebogo won heat one clocking by 45.93 while Pasela recorded 46.73 in heat two while Gosaitse Olebetse and Tumo Van Wyk chased him home in a time of 46.69 and 46.79.

Masilo powered home to win heat six stopping the clock in 46.59 while another local athlete, Lefatshe Seleka finished second in heat seven clocking 46.77.

Meanwhile, Obakeng Kamburuka, Batisane Kennekae and Golekanye Chikani made it to the 400m final at the same competition.

Botswana Athletics Association CEO, Mabua Mabua, said the camp will be held in Francistown from March 15 to 29 and move to Gaborone where the team is expected to compete in the Lefika International Relays.

Countries that have confirmed participation at the relays are Zambia, Nigeria, South Africa, Lesotho, Poland and Zimbabwe. During the World Athletics Relays all eyes will be on the Botswana men’s 4x400m relay team, who are world championships.

Botswana made history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo by winning their first-ever men's 4x400m relay gold medal.

The team, featuring the 200m Olympic champion, Tebogo, Lee Bhekimpilo Eppie,Bayapo Ndori, and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi, won in a thrilling 2:57.76 finish amidst heavy rain.
