Kutlwano targets league title

'The Big House', as the Kutlwano is called, has appointed new leadership led by Reabetswe Jaba as the team bids to reclaim its place at the top.
Solvin Sekalaba is vice chairperson, whilst Doubt Moilwa is the treasurer, with Shadrack Kapeko coming in as secretary and Tiroyaone Otimile elected spokesperson. The new leadership has an ambitious plan of winning the National Volleyball League (NVL) title.
The league kicked off last weekend, with a mixture of different emotions for Kutlwano as the men’s side lost 3-2 to Spiking Stars while the women's side pulled a 3-0 victory against Mafolofolo.
NVL moves into the second weekend with Kutlwano women's team taking on Dynamites. Otimile said the plan is to win the league and automatically qualify for Zone 6 Club Championship to be held in Swakopmund, Namibia, in December.
“It was a good start, the team delivered beyond our expectations. Remember, the club has not been in competitive volleyball since April 2025. “We have new players in the squad who showed up well. We had prepared well for those games; it is our culture to resume training early. We believe in proper strength and fitness conditioning,” he said.
Otimile added they would carry the same fitness level to the next assignment.
He said there is a need for more game conditioning training before actual competition to allow for more tactical awareness and general cohesion of the team, taking into account new players who need to gel with the rest of the squad.
“We need to work on composure and concentration when leading to close the game at a high level. We will study our next opponent well in advance and correct those mistakes,” Otimile said.
