The funds went towards hiring of the facility, branding and other logistics. The festival was attended by volleyball, judo, netball, table tennis and basketball codes. BNSC director of sport development, Peaceful Seleka, told Sport Monitor that it is time for BNSC to collaborate with facility owners for ease of accessibility and usage by National Sport Associations (NSAs) in a more sustainable way.

He stated that it is going to take a long time for the BNSC to set up its own facilities due to the prevailing financials challenges.

However, Seleka said when the situation gets better, it will be prudent that an indoor facility becomes a priority.

He said following the success of the festival, an evaluation will be carried out, which will determine whether the event continues or not.

Seleka explained that the evaluation will be guided by various factors such as meeting the set objectives and sustainability in terms of financial resources.

The 2026 National Volleyball League (NVL) kicked off over the weekend during the BNSC Indoor Sport Festival.

Following their position four finish at the 2025 Zone VI Championships, Spiking Stars women team proved that they are force to reckon winning all their matches.

Stars walloped BDF VI (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 11-15) 3-2 in a tightly contested battle with Stars men pulling a shocker coming from a 0-2 deficit to bring down Kutlwano with a 3-2 win (31-29, 25-22, 29-25, 13-15).

Stars chairperson, Dikgang Kgosana, told Sport Monitor that the wins were not a surprise, but it is all the hardwork that went into the preparations.

He said the aim for 2026 is for a podium finish at Zone VI.

“Our winning secret is training and what we want to achieve this year. We are motivated, remember in 2024 when Zone VI was hosted in Gaborone, we scooped a silver medal. Now we want another podium finish.

“We have recruited new players, setters from Yaros for the women’s side and an outside attacker from Police, George Chiswaniso, he is commonly known as a member of the Beach volleyball pair,” Kgosana said.

Kutlwano pulled a 3-0 straight sets victory against Mafolofolo, with a scoreline of 25-16, 25-12, 25-19. The men’s side went down 3-0 to Kalavango with a score line of 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.

Mafolofolo coach, Boitumelo Botsang said the loss was due to insufficient preparations because most of their players stay outside Gaborone and they do not have a training ground.

He said they only had one training session, two days before the league games.

“We also learnt late about the league but we cannot use that as an excuse, main challenge is lack of a training ground. We have attempted to ask for permission to use Mogoditshane Senior School ground, but the school management has not responded to our request. As things stand, we are stuck,” Botsang said.

In another exciting fixture, Prisons men continued where they left off last season, walloping BDF VI with a scoreline of 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 22-25,24-26, 15-10). Police VI powered through Yaros to win the match 3-2 (27-29, 25-21, 20-25, 25-1, 15-11) to start the season on pole position.

The going was tough for Mag Stimela as they were dominated by Police VI women winning the match by straight sets, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-22).
