Over the weekend at the BDP retreat, the party president, Mpho Balop, revealed that their trip down to Serowe to render apologies to the community and Khama has borne fruit as their apologies have been accepted by the latter.

“We had a meeting with Khama as he personally reached out to us, and he said to us that following our visit to apologise, he has forgiven us,” Balopi said.

Responding to a questionnaire from Mmegi following the pronouncements made by Balopi, Khama confirmed that he did meet with some of the BDP members recently.

“By way of background, you will recall that the BDP Central Committee, accompanied by some other members of the party, came to Serowe to offer an apology. The apology itself was delivered by the party president and party veteran Daniel Kwelagobe,” Khama said.

Khama added that after the meeting, it was then left to each individual affected by the past tensions to decide whether to accept the apology or not.

“Some time after that, I did meet with Balopi and Kwelagobe only to give them feedback about my own position, which was that I accept their apology,” he said.

However, Khama emphasized that forgiveness does not extend to everyone who has wronged him and the Bangwato tribe.

“I accepted their apology, but only from those who did not engage in acts of harassment or persecution. The others will not be forgiven nor forgotten for what they did,” Khama said.

One other issue that arose from the BDP retreat, Domkrag will willingly and intentionally work towards reconciling former president Mokgweetsi Masisi and Khama.

Regarding the issue, Khama said that he has not been apprised of the developments of reconciliation attempts. “On the issue of attempts at reconciliation with Masisi, I have not been formally informed that it's intended to achieve such,” he said.

As BDP also highlighted that it intends to work hand in hand with former presidents that include Khama, Masisi, and Festus Mogae, he (Khama) distanced himself from any political activities.

“As to working with the BDP, I have stated on several occasions that I am no longer active in politics for as long as I am carrying out the official duties as Kgosikgolo,” he said.
