Netball is recovering from recent catastrophic events, which saw removal of those at the top.

They included then-president Malebo Raditladi-Nkgakile, Seipei Gaelisiwe (vice president-project and events), Masego Serumola (sport development officer), and Mokeresete Mokeresete (public relations officer), who were all removed through a motion of no confidence in 2024.

The decision was followed by the suspension of the then-secretary general, Thulaganyo Retshabile, who was suspended until July 2027 by the previous president, Onkemetse Mpudi, over non-performance.

Vipers Netball Club has been suspended for failure to comply with the requirements of the Registrar of Societies. Another issue that netball is grappling with is securing league sponsorship.

Clubs are not happy with about how the league is managed, and teams recently travelled to Maun for league matches, but they were not funded for the trip.

Last week, the association held a constitutional review workshop in Gaborone, which was attended by BONA affiliates, Thamaga Jaspers, Notwane, BDF Cats, Prisons, Jwaneng, Morupule, TASC, TAFIC, Police and UB Crystal.

BONA president, Mpopi Moatlhodi, told MmegiSport that they have concluded the constitutional review.

“The review was not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing on anything. BONA has been using an old constitution, so it was a matter of aligning with the current developments in netball,” she said.

“Some of the major changes in the constitution are the inclusion or recognition of men and mixed netball. Even the international body has changed from the International Netball Federation (INF) to World Netball (WN).”

Regarding the BONA Pitso, Moatlhodi noted the idea is to get everyone involved, engage in an open dialogue on how they can take netball forward and collectively formulate a shared purpose as well as shape the direction they want to take.

When asked about the implementation plan of the resolutions from the Pitso, Moatlhodi explained that agreed outcomes and next steps would form part of the action plan. “The outcomes will be monitored, reviewed, and evaluated on a regular basis. Progress updates will also be shared periodically,” she added.

Meanwhile, netball will be part of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) indoor sport festival at Royal Aria Indoor Hall on March 7.

Other sporting codes that will take part in the festival are judo, boxing, basketball, volleyball and table tennis.

“We are excited about the initiative, it is an opportunity to demonstrate that as different sport codes we can co-exist and co-create,” she said. The netball Division A second round fixtures will get underway at the new venue.

The Division A women's clubs are Cats, Jwaneng, Police, and Notwane, whilst Prisons, Cats, Notwane, and Police are in the men's section. Fixtures Women: Cats vs Notwane, Jwaneng vs Police, Notwane vs Police, and Jwaneng vs Cats

Men: Cats vs Police, Notwane vs Prisons, Police vs Prisons, and Notwane vs Cats
