The incident was confirmed by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Officer-in-Charge at Botshabelo Police Station, Detective Assistant Superintendent Modisaotsile Kajata.

Police received the report of the duo's fight at around 8am from a tenant residing in the same yard as the two brothers, the top investigator in the area said.

“Upon receiving the report, officers rushed to the scene where they found the 36-year-old victim lying in a pool of blood with a severe stab wound to the neck,” he added.

Kajata explained that the victim was immediately rushed to Selebi-Phikwe Government Hospital and was later referred to Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone for further medical attention due to the seriousness of his injury.

However, the detective revealed that later that same day, at around 5pm, police received notification from the hospital that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

He revealed that preliminary investigations suggest that the incident followed a misunderstanding between the two brothers, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

He stated that the suspect has since been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Asked what the fight was all about, Kajata noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the dispute and the sequence of events leading to the fatal stabbing.

He further appealed to members of the public to resolve conflicts amicably and refrain from resorting to violence.

“It is deeply concerning that disputes, even amongst family members, can escalate to such tragic outcomes.

“We urge the public to seek peaceful means of resolving differences,” he said.
