According to Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng, the deceased is alleged to have called one of his relatives earlier, informing her of his intention to take his own life.
Alarmed by the call, the relative quickly alerted other family members and urged them to rush to his home.
Oteng explained that, upon arrival, other family members did not find him at the yard.
This prompted a search and efforts to locate the man led them to follow his footprints into the bush, where he was later discovered hanging from a tree.
“The deceased did not leave any note. We only learnt from a relative that he had communicated his intentions through a phone call.
“We have since launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Oteng said.
The Police have since appealed to members of the public to seek help when facing personal challenges instead of resorting to taking their own lives.
Oteng emphasised that support systems such as social workers, traditional leaders such as dikgosi, and the police are readily available to provide assistance and counselling.
