Confirming the incident, No.12 District Traffic Officer, Superintendent Itumeleng Maruru, said the police received a report of the accident at around 9pm.

He explained that the deceased, who was working as a herder at a cattlepost on the outskirts of Rasesa, was crossing from one side of the village to the other when he was hit by a vehicle.

The victim believed to be in his late 30s was rushed to Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival by the doctors.

Following the incident, Maruru has since urged motorists to exercise caution at all times, particularly in areas where pedestrians are likely to cross.

“Pedestrians should also understand that it is their responsibility to use the road safely. There is no automatic right-of-way; they must only cross when it is safe to do so,” he said.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
