Tough outing for the Beach Volleyball team

The games, which started on February 20 to 22, formed part of the points that the team should accumulate in order to qualify for the Africa Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The team was made up of a pair of George Chiswaniso and Jack Sekao, and the second pair was Travor Manduwa and Baleofi Mosiiwa.
The pair of Manduwa and Mosiiwa played their quarterfinal match on Sunday against an Angolan team but narrowly lost 2–1 in a thrilling encounter.
The set scores were 21–18, 16–21, 17–19. It was a hard-fought battle, with the boys showing great determination and fighting spirit, especially in the decisive third set, which went down to the wire.
Mosiiwa and Manduwa delivered a strong performance in the last 16, defeating a Namibian side 2–0 (21–18, 21–15) to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Jack and George fought hard against a Zambian team but narrowly lost 2–1 (21–17, 19–21, 14–16). Due to the results that the two teams posted, were eliminated from the tournament.
Despite being knocked out of the tournament, the two teams made an impressive start with Manduwa and Mosiiwa dominantly opening their campaign, defeating a Namibian pair 2–0 with convincing set scores of 21–11 and 21–09.
The duo displayed excellent coordination, solid defense, and strong attacking play. The team of Sekao and Chiswaniso also secured a straight-sets victory over a Namibian side, winning 2–0 (21–16, 21–11). The pair demonstrated composure and tactical discipline throughout the match.
In the second match, the duo Mosiiwa and Manduwa secured their second victory of the tournament after defeating a strong Namibian side 2–0 (21–19, 21–12). With this impressive win, the pair has officially qualified for the round of 16.
Their compatriots Sekao and Chiswaniso followed suit with another dominant performance, defeating their Namibian opponents 2–0 (21–08, 21–10). The victory also saw them advance to the round of 16.
Speaking to Sport Monitor, Beach Volleyball vice president, Pogiso Osupile, said the team might have started the qualifiers on the back foot, but that is not the end because there is still a long road to go.
“This was the first leg in the Zone; we have more legs remaining. We will prepare for the next leg that will be played in Mozambique.
“We are still sure that we will accumulate as many points for the team to qualify for the Africa Games and LA 2028 Olympics,” Osupile said.
