Position: Underground Mining Project Manager

Employment Type: Fixed Contract Term for 26 Months

Project Location: Karowe Diamond Mine, Letlhakane, Botswana

Reporting To: Operations Manager / Project Director

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead, plan, manage, and deliver high speed underground Lateral, Vertical, Mass Excavation development. The role focuses on the management and ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution from planning through commissioning.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering underground access and infrastructure that supports sustainable mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage vertical development which includes drop raising, raise boring, and ventilation raises

Manage lateral development which include declines, mass excavations, ramps, haulages, crosscuts, ore drives, and access tunnels

Develop and control project schedules, budgets, and resource plans

Coordinate underground teams, subcontractors, and specialist service providers Manage the client’s KPAs to ensure milestones are achieved in time.

Ensure strict compliance with mining safety, health, and environmental regulations Oversee drilling, blasting, ground support, and support installation activities Monitor advance rates, dilution, quality, and productivity metrics

Manage contractor performance, contract administration, and cost control Identify and mitigate operational and geotechnical risks

Ensure integration of development activities with production, ventilation, and services Deliver accurate progress reporting to management

Minimum Requirements

Diploma/Degree in Mining / Mechanical / Civil / Electrical Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent

Registration with Engineering Registration Board (ERB)

Certification in PMP, or equivalent

20+ years’ experience in underground mining development

5 years’ experience as Project Manager

Proven experience managing lateral development, long hole stoping, and construction projects

Strong understanding of; Underground drilling and blasting, Ground support systems, Ventilation and services installation

Experience working in operational, high-risk underground environments

Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills

Experience in deep-level or mechanised underground mining

Exposure to hard rock commodities (Diamond extraction)

Experience in underground high-speed development

Experience in managing Cost, Time and Quality within Mega Project

Understanding of UG infrastructure, Crushers, conveyors, Trackless workshops

Understand shaft operations and material handling in vertical shafts
