The event's Marketing, Public Relations & Media Coordinator, Henny Maruapula, said the festival will feature a range of activities, including cultural performances, poetry, DJs, traditional games, and a best-dressed attire competition. There will also be plenty of activities for kids, such as swimming, jumping castles, and traditional games like mmele and diketo.
'We are bringing people from diverse backgrounds to converge at one event,' Maruapula said. 'Our MC is from Molepolole, we have artists and DJs from Francistown, Gaborone, and other parts of the country, all coming together to celebrate culture in Kgatleng,' he stated.
One of the unique aspects of the festival is its family-oriented approach. 'Our event is unique because it brings kids, corporates, young adults, culture lovers, and people from all walks of life to a day and night event,' Henny explained. 'It is a garden setup, open space, welcome, safe, and secure. We have not had any incidents of theft or break-ins on vehicles since inception.'
The lineup is impressive, with performances by Culture Spears, Charma Gal, Lebgee, Sean Lacoostaq, Dr Vom, Dj Molex, Tawana Ya Koma, Mafitlhakgosi, and Moologa. Traditional activities like kgoroso Ya Bojalwa jwa Setswana, lelwapana for women, and kgotla for men will also showcase the culture and traditions of the olden days.
Maruapula shared that curating the lineup was one of the most exciting parts of preparing for the festival. 'Trying to see how to keep patrons excited by having a refreshing lineup and a blend of young and old, as well as established and upcoming artists, was a challenge, but it's going to be worth it,' he said.
The festival will also feature traditional games, a best-dressed competition, and plenty of food and drinks. Attendees are encouraged to wear traditional attire and leteise, and Madikwe Cultural Festival merchandise will be available for sale.
The event is a celebration of local talent, with a lineup of strictly local artists and DJs performing in Setswana. 'We aim to preserve our local culture and promote it through music and dance,' he explained.
The Madikwe Cultural Festival has also been involved in community outreach, donating funds to Kgabotshwene Primary School in Sikwane in 2025. 'We want attendees to realise the importance of Madikwe Cultural Festival to the Kgatleng region and how it contributes to society,' Maruapula said.
The festival promises to be a memorable event, and attendees can expect a fun-filled day and night of culture, music, and community. With its focus on promoting healthy living, celebrating Batswana culture, and empowering local communities, the Madikwe Cultural Festival is an event not to be missed.
