Mfolo will leave the association he joined in 2017 after opting against renewing his contract.

BFA president, Tariq Babitseng, said the process to replace the departing CEO will begin after the association’s executive committee meets to decide on the way forward. “We will be advertising the position. We will soon have a national executive committee meeting where we will agree on the terms of reference for the new CEO,” he said.

“We need someone who is competent and is driven on the commercial side because our programmes are centred around money.

Although FIFA, CAF and the government assist us, we usually have a shortfall.

We therefore need a robust person to make sure we get more partners to augment what we have,” he added.

Babitseng said whilst Mfolo “is a good administrator and resourceful person,” he did not have the same attributes on the commercial side.

“We discussed – me and him – that we need a commercial person. I do not have issues with his administration side; he did it diligently,” Babitseng said.

The BFA leader explained that it was Mfolo who decided against renewing his term at the football body, as he closes a chapter that has saddled between two presidents.

Mfolo was hired under the Maclean Letshwiti regime and continued under Babitseng, who took office in 2024.
