Addressing a press conference in Gaborone on Wednesday, Rollers chairperson, Thapelo ‘Fish’ Pabalinga, described the milestone as a moment of reflection and renewal for arguably Botswana’s most successful football club.
Founded in 1961, Rollers will celebrate the anniversary throughout 2026, starting with the unveiling of two special 65th-anniversary logos designed by local graphic artists.
The designs were selected through a competition involving supporters and creatives, underlining the club’s commitment to fan inclusion.
Pabalinga stated that the chosen logo reflects key milestones in the club’s history, including its unprecedented run of seven consecutive league titles and numerous cup triumphs.
“It is important at any given point to remind ourselves what Rollers is about and where it comes from, so that we understand the legacy that this team represents,” he said.
One of the commemorative logos will temporarily replace the club’s traditional emblem on playing kits during 2026, featuring on new replica jerseys designed by Umbro South Africa, which are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
The second logo will be used on anniversary merchandise such as cups, bottles, t-shirts, golfers and bucket hats, which will also serve as a fundraising initiative.
“As you may be aware, we have been running a competition inviting supporters and well-wishers to design the club’s 65th anniversary icon that will be adopted for 2026. This anniversary is both a moment to honour the past and invest in the future of Township Rollers Football Club,” Pabalinga added.
As part of the celebrations, Popa will host a 65th anniversary fun run on April 25 at the iconic Mma Masire Grounds in Gaborone West.
The event, open to the public, will feature a 10km race and a 21km half-marathon. Entry fees are set at P100, whilst a P300 package includes limited edition anniversary merchandise. Tickets are available through Webtickets.
The club will also host a gala dinner in August during the off-season to honour past and present legends.
Pabalinga revealed that the celebrations are meant to unite supporters across the country and reaffirm the club’s national identity.
“Township Rollers is not a regional team, but a national team. Together, we will safeguard our legacy and build this club’s future,” he said.
