Vunani Botswana Women Sports Awards set for March 27

The application process has been opened for, and will run until February 27, 2026. This year’s theme is 'Honouring women, shaping Botswana’s sporting legacy.'
“The 4th instalment of the Awards reaffirms our readiness as a country, to propel gender parity in sports. Since inception of the initiative in 2023, we have rewarded over 51female athletes, administrators and sports journalists with just under BWP500,000 in prize-money, collectively. A capacity building workshop for all winners follows immediately after the awards. This impact has been made possible by all partners and sponsors who strongly believe in gender parity as part of their mandates” Kesego Kebelaele Okie, chief executive officer at Inside BW Women Sports.
She particularly thanked Vunani Fund Managers for its BWP600,000 investment in the Awards in 2024, adding that the 3-year sponsorship significantly enhanced the delivery of the awards. “Although the sponsorship comes to an end this year, we are excited that the company has shown commitment to extend the partnership, something we believe will help us further enhance the quality and footprint of the project” she said.
Kebelaele-Okie thanked the Ministry of Sport and Arts for its continued support in the project since inception, and made a call to the private sector to support the awards to enable them to reward deserving athletes, sports journalists and administrators. She also recognized the role of National Sporting Associations in facilitating submission of applications from qualifying athletes and administrators, imploring them to extend the same support this year. There are 16 categories that include the coveted Sportswoman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year with Disability, Young Promising Athlete and Team of the Year.
