After 15 rounds of matches played over the weekend, six teams are currently living dangerously on the edge with at least two others also not far off. Rookies, Tsetseng United are still languishing at the bottom of the log standings with only six points accumulated from 15 games so far. Their 1-1 draw with Union Flamengo Santos did very little to improve their chances of survival.
With seven matches to play and 21 points up for grabs, the new comers face an uphill battle considering their win ratio. From the 15 games played, they have only managed to register one victory, playing to a draw three times and registering a whooping 11 losses.
They have scored only nine times and conceded 22 goals. Their survival not only rests on them winning their remaining matches, but they also hope that other relegation candidates start dropping points consistently in the remaining games.
Above Tsetseng United sit Majweng FC who have so far collected 15 points with three wins, six draws and six defeats. Before the past weekend matches, Majweng were sitting at position nine and the 2-0 loss to log leaders, Prisons XI saw them drop to the red zone.
Taung Young Strikers and Tlokweng United registered important victories over the weekend and shook up the league table at the bottom.
A solitary goal on Friday night was enough for Young Strikers to seal a win against Holy Ghost while Tlokweng United beat Notwane 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Young Strikers moved from position 10 to position seven while Tlokweng United moved to position 10 from position 11. Notwane have since dropped from position seven to position nine.
The once feared side in the local soccer fraternity has been facing challenges outside the football pitch including late payments of players’ salaries. At the time when they were doing well this season, they lost head coach, Daniel Nare to Dinare FC.
They started dropping points but have since managed to lure him back to the team. The club recently also ushered in a new executive committee, which has been mandated with steering the ship until the end of the season.
Against Tlokweng United, they had their fare share of chances to score but they were let down by poor decision making in the final third. Tlokweng United on the other hand used their chances well.
At the top, Prisons XI retained three-point gap between them and Dinare FC.
Dinare registered a hard fought victory against Thamaga Shooting Stars to ensure that they keep pace with log leaders. On the other hand Security Systems and Jwaneng Young Stars played to a 1-1 draw.
