Police investigate string of rape cases

No.13 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Mmoloke Sebako said the first rape case was recorded on Friday after a 15-year-old girl was attacked and gang raped by two men in Ledumadumane, Mogoditshane.

He said the little girl was walking alone, met two unknown men who grabbed and dragged her to an unoccupied house in the neighbourhood, where they subsequently took turns raping her before fleeing.

'Investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest them,' he said.

Sebako further said in another rape case that occured on Saturday, Gaborone West Police Station is investigating a case in which an 18-year-old girl was attacked and raped whilst walking alone from Block 5 to Gaborone West location.

He said the incident was reported around 8pm.

'She was also attacked by an unknown man who grabbed and pulled her to a nearby bush, raped her and fled. We have since launched a probe to locate the suspect who is still at large,' Sebako said.

In another case, a 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her ex-boyfriend in Old Naledi in Gaborone on Saturday night.

'The victim said her ex-boyfriend found her at her neighbour's place, asked her to accompany him to his place in 01 location in Old Naledi, Gaborone, where he allegedly raped her. Investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest him,' he said.
