Red Roses show no mercy in record-breaking rout

The win showcased GU’s supremacy and exposed the visitors’ growing struggles in the newly revamped league.
Swallows assistant coach, Arnold Pillar cut a helpless figure as his side were torn apart by a ruthless Gaborone United Ladies outfit. He admitted that inexperience, injuries and poor preparation left his team no match for the Red Roses’ well-oiled machine.
“I would say the issue is the quality of players we have in the team. Most of them have just started playing football and we have only started working just the basics with them and playing against an organised team like this, it was not going to be easy.
“Our preparations were also not satisfactory because we are missing a number of our key players, due to injuries, we have around five players who are out with injuries,” Pillar said.
His words summed up an afternoon of total dominance at the GU Stadium where the Red Roses ran riot, recording the biggest victory in the newly revamped Botswana Women’s National League Southern Stream.
The massacre started almost immediately. Just 30 seconds in, Lesego Radiakanyo broke the deadlock and within minutes, the floodgates were wide open.
Radiakanyo completed a lightning-fast hat-trick inside three minutes as GU raced into a commanding early lead, with Serati Modisenyane and Jessica Modise quickly joining the goal fest.
Keitumetse Dithebe was at the heart of the carnage, mixing goals with assists as the Swallows defence crumbled under relentless pressure. By the time the referee blew for halftime, the scoreboard already read a staggering 20-0.
If there was any hope of mercy after the break, GU quickly buried it.
Nancy Baeletsi, Obonetse Rathari, Segakolodi Didukunyane and substitute Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse all got in on the act as the Red Roses kept piling on the misery.
Ontlametse announced herself in style with a brace before going on to complete a hat-trick, while Modise and Dithebe continued their personal scoring sprees.
The visitors’ nightmare was made worse by injuries to goalkeeper Amantle Chindu and Kefilwe Ditshwene, with the latter needing urgent medical attention and being rushed to a clinic in a private car as no ambulance was available at the venue.
Radiakanyo fittingly had the final say, capping a sensational individual performance as GU completed a historic 42-goal demolition surpassing their own 23-goal margin record set earlier in the season.
After three matches, Swallows have now conceded a staggering 67 goals without finding the net, while GU’s statement victory firmly underlined their title credentials.
