Systems narrowly defeated Uniao Flamengo Santos 2-1 in an exciting league match played under scorching sun at Gabane United ground on Saturday. Head coach, Steve ‘Lefty’ Bothasitse said the second round is always the most difficult adding that usually when enough points are not collected in the first round, teams are always found wanting in the second lap.

“When you don’t collect much in the first round, you are going to be found wanting in the second round.

“It is something that we have anticipated and for us, is to try by all means to collect maximum points. Let’s see what happens. If we continue winning, let us see what happens at the end of the season,” he said.

Bothasitse added the game against Santos was always going to be closely contested. He stated that they came into the match knowing very well that if Santos win, they go above them on the log standings.

“What we needed to do was to get an early goal which came after 21 minutes,” Bothasitse told Sport Monitor after the match.

“We started controlling the game the way we wanted because we know in terms of match fitness we are not yet there because we have just come back from the festive break.”

He added that after the halftime break they knew that it was going to be difficult to re-start the match because of fatique.

“After they equalised, we made few changes. The intention was to put them on the back foot because we could see that they are now overloading with the fullbacks,” he said.

“So the idea was to try and keep their fullbacks at their defensive third hence we managed to get the second goal,” he said.

Systems are currently sitting on position five with 21 points from 14 games, 11 points behind log leaders, Prisons XI.
