The gaffer watched his side, Mochudi Centre Chiefs snatch a hard-fought 1-0 win over stubborn Calendar Stars courtesy of a late header from substitute Hendrick Moyo in an FNB Premiership clash played at GU Stadium on Friday evening.

He admitted it was not pretty, it was not flowing but it was effective. Speaking after the match, Torreira said his side is still a work in progress.

“We need more time but at the same time we need points. Today the rival was very strong and they made it very difficult for us. The most important thing is three points and continue working hard, and mentality. For now we still need to improve defensively, on attacks and overall,” he said.

The win keeps Torreira’s perfect start intact as in two games in charge, he has recorded two wins and two goals while and he is yet conceded.

Though the coach openly conceded his team is far from the level he envisions as he tries to implement his philosophy midway through the campaign. Chiefs had their fair share of frustration before the breakthrough.

Just before halftime, they felt hard done by when Gilbert Baruti’s shot was blocked on the line, seemingly by the defender's hands, but the referee waved away penalty appeals.

Calendar Stars came close to shocking the Chiefs faithful in the 56th minute when Kabelo Babusi broke through on goal, only to drag his effort inches wide. Moments later, Baruti forced a brilliant save as Chiefs turned up the pressure.

The decisive moment arrived in the 83rd minute. Introduced from the bench, Hendrick Moyo rose highest to nod home Ronaldo Fortune’s inviting cross, sending the Chiefs dugout into celebration and breaking Calendar’s resistance.

It was a classic smash-and-grab finish and the kind that wins championships even when performances are not at their sharpest. For Torreira, the balancing act continues, grinding results now while slowly sculpting the attractive, high-tempo football he desires.
