The Netherlands-based institute released its findings last week.
In a statement, FNBB said it had been named as the number one employer in the market.
“We are proud to share that FNB Botswana has been recognised by the Top Employers Institute as a leading workplace in both Botswana and across,” the bank said. “This achievement is a testament to our commitment to nurturing talent, empowering growth, and creating an environment where our people feel valued, supported, and inspired to excel in their fields.”
FNBB officials said at the heart of the recognition is the bank’s culture, which is one that “prioritises wellbeing, collaboration, and continuous development”.
Globally, the TEI’s top employers’ database for 2026 features nearly 2,500 organisations across 131 countries and regions. According to the organisation, these top employers are recognised for their commitment to building high-performing people practices, grounded in independent validation, data-driven insight and a clear focus on driving business performance, employee engagement, and growth.
In Botswana, just six companies enjoy the top employers certification, including FNBB, Absa, DHL Botswana, Alexander Forbes, Huawei Botswana, and Orange Botswana.
Absa Bank Botswana officials said the local bank enjoyed the largest annual growth rate improvement of the six African markets where it enjoys top employer certification. Absa was ranked a top employer in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, and Mauritius according to the latest TEI survey.
Absa officials said the 2026 results place Absa Botswana well above the global standards of human capital management. The Absa Group achieved an overall score of 93.66%, which is a notable increase from 90.15% in 2025 and sits materially above the global benchmark of 85.9%.
Within this framework, Botswana’s accelerated improvement highlights a relentless focus on people-focused policies and processes, officials said.
Charles Russon, Absa’s Group Executive for the Africa Region, said the performance underscored the bank’s continued positive performance.
“The continued growth in the number of Absa markets achieving Top Employer certification is a powerful endorsement of our people-first strategy and our commitment to building workplaces where excellence, inclusion and high performance can thrive,” he said.
Absa Group achieved full scores of 100% in Business Strategy, Leadership, and Performance.
“This demonstrates a high degree of consistency in how the bank’s strategy is translated into leadership practice. “Furthermore, the bank’s score in Ethics and Integrity reached 99.49%, outperforming the global benchmark by 1.45 percent and the industry benchmark by nearly two percent,” Russon said.
According to the TEI, surveys of top employers are important because 92% of prospective candidates agree that this certification is a determining factor behind their job application, whilst 74% of top employers improve their position as an employer of choice after joining the Top Employers Programme.
