The book is a reflection of Oitsile's own experiences, as she navigated the quiet season after completing her studies, grappling with rejection, identity, and purpose. Her writing is influenced by her lived experiences, including her background in entrepreneurship and innovation. As a Botswana-born author, trainer, and public speaker, she is passionate about storytelling, mentorship, and youth development.
'I write what I know, what I have felt, and what I have survived. Authenticity is powerful. When readers sense that a story is real, it allows them to confront their own truths with less fear,' she said.
The idea for Beyond the Tassel emerged from Oitsile's journal entries, written during moments of confusion and reflection. 'I wanted to tell the story that exists beyond the graduation gown and applause,' she explained. The writing process was deeply personal and non-linear, taking over a year to complete.
Oitsile hopes readers will find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggles and will be encouraged to practice self-compassion and patience. 'I want readers to know that struggling after graduation does not mean they failed. It means they are human,' she said.
Oitsile draws inspiration from African writers and women who write courageously about faith, identity, and growth. One of her favorite authors is Priscilla Ndadi.
When faced with writer's block, she stepped away, allowing herself to rest, walk, or journal without pressure. She added that difficult scenes required honesty, adding that sometimes she waited until she had healed enough to write them truthfully,' she said.
Oitsile's publishing experience was a learning curve involving multiple edits and revisions. She promotes her work through social media, conversations, and book launches, believing that connection matters more than marketing.
Looking ahead, Oitsile is working on a new book centered on rest, faith, and becoming, exploring themes of womanhood, identity, and growth beyond milestones. Stay updated on her work and upcoming releases on LinkedIn and social media platforms under her name, Same Oitsile.
