Mosala has been on the run since 2011 for a robbery offence committed in 2004. State Inspector Modisaotsile Seratswe stated that Mosala disappeared shortly after he was convicted

“The accused, back in 2011, after Regional Magistrate Barnabos Nyamadzabo found him guilty of robbery, ran away. What he did was that shortly after he was found guilty, he got away in a getaway car, and that was the last time we saw him,” Seratswe said.

Seratswe said Mosala was able to evade the police and prison guards because, initially, he was out on bail, which made it easier for him to escape.

“The accused person, after conviction, escaped whilst he was waiting to be taken to prison, and he has been hiding in South Africa for the past 15 years, and he got in a getaway car,” he said.

Since he evaded shortly after his conviction, Seratswe revealed that a 10-year sentence was passed on to Mosala.

“The accused person was then sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in absentia, which he did not serve,” he said.

Now, 14 years later, Seratswe stated that Mosala was apprehended last year, around October, walking the streets of Gwest after he had been in South Africa for the past few years.

“He was arrested on October 26, 2025, here in Gaborone at Gwest, and I was contacted about his arrest,” he said. Seratswe added that since his arrest, the State has hit a stumbling block in compelling the accused to serve his sentence.

“Efforts to take him to prison to serve his sentence have proven futile as court proceedings containing the sentence and committal warrant cannot be found, only the court judgment is available,” Seratswe said.

However, Seratswe said he is not losing hope that Mosala will serve his sentence as he has the utmost belief that court proceedings will be found.

The accused appeared before the Extension II Magistrate Court yesterday under heavy guard from the Special Support Group (SSG) in a Ford armored vehicle. The case continues on February 11.
