Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, confirmed that police are investigating the fatal accident, which occurred at around 1:20 pm.
Letsholathebe said the deceased was hit by a Mercedes-Benz driven by a woman who was travelling from Gaborone towards Molepolole. Following the collision, the victim was rushed to Julia Molefe Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival after sustaining serious head injuries.
He added that the vehicle had three occupants, including the driver, and none of them sustained injuries in the accident.
Letsholathebe stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing. He further expressed concern over the increasing number of pedestrian-related accidents at the spot, describing it as a known danger zone.
“Accidents involving pedestrians in this area remain a concern. Last year, we recorded several fatal accidents involving pedestrians at this spot, most of which occurred at night when people were crossing the main road between bars,” he said.
He further urged both pedestrians and motorists to exercise caution, noting that police appeals for road safety compliance continue to be ignored.
“We have repeatedly pleaded with pedestrians to be cautious when crossing the road and with drivers to be observant of pedestrians, but it appears that our appeals continue to fall on deaf ears,” Letsholathebe said.
