Confirming the incident, Kazungula Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Sefane Mokgethi, said the two were fishing when a crocodile suddenly attacked the man.
“The woman was allegedly in possession of a spear, which she used to repeatedly stab the crocodile until it released the man,” Mokgethi said.
The victim sustained injuries to his leg and was rushed to a local clinic, where he received treatment before being discharged. Mokgethi used the incident to once again caution and warn residents against fishing in the area, stressing that fishing is currently prohibited.
“Just a week ago, a 14-year-old boy was also attacked and injured by a crocodile at the same pond,” he said.
He expressed concern that despite repeated warnings, some residents continue to ignore safety advisories.
“We have been pleading with residents to refrain from fishing, but our pleas continue to fall on deaf ears. We do not know how best we can address this matter anymore,” Mokgethi said.
Police have urged members of the public to prioritise their safety and comply with regulations, especially in areas known to be frequented by dangerous wildlife.
