Confirming the incident, Palapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Koziba Phuluweni, said the fatal accident occurred at around 4:45 am along the Palapye–Martin’s Drift road on Saturday.

Phuluweni explained that the horse and trailer truck, which was being driven by a 35-year-old woman, reportedly hit potholes along the road, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck then collided head-on with the oncoming CR-V.

Both vehicles were occupied by only the respective drivers at the time of the accident.

“The deceased was rushed to Palapye Primary Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival by doctors,” said Phuluweni.

He added that the truck driver sustained shock and was treated at the same hospital before being released later that morning.

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
