Confirming the incident, Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, said the deceased was discovered after his neighbour, who resides in the same yard, became concerned when he did not see him throughout the day.
“The neighbour last saw the deceased the previous night when he was retiring to bed. After not seeing him the whole day, he went to check on him and knocked on the door, but received no response,” said Letsholathebe.
He explained that the neighbour noticed the key visible from inside the room and reported the matter to the police. Upon arrival, police forcibly opened the door and found the man lying motionless on his bed, with no visible injuries.
“It appeared that he went to bed and never woke up,” said Letsholathebe.
The deceased was taken to Nkoyaphiri Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival by doctors. Police have since informed the next of kin, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Letsholathebe said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
