The move follows outcry from creatives, who previously had to travel to COSBOTS offices in Gaborone or Francistown to register their works or apply for licences.
That made it difficult for those with financial or physical challenges to access the services.
Under the new partnership, BotswanaPost will provide courier services for eligible COSBOTS members, allowing documents and applications to be submitted and received without the need for long-distance travel. The service will be offered for free.
'This partnership with Botswana Post reflects our commitment to empowering our creative community. We believe that intellectual property registration and licensing should be accessible to all creators, regardless of their location. This initiative removes barriers and makes the process effortless, secure, and cost-free,' COSBOTS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Letlhogonolo Makwinja sated.
The CEO continued, “This initiative is part of COSBOTS’ ongoing mission to empower creatives in Botswana and ensure that intellectual property rights are easily accessible to all. This partnership is a significant step towards ensuring that every creator in Botswana can protect, manage, and monetise their creativity efficiently.”
