The former 800m Olympic silver medallist has teamed up with Simon Tshwaane, Sydney Seabo and Solomon Mpusetsang of Gaborone based Propellers Sport Academy. Amos told Sport Monitor that a new era for youth athletics in Botswana has officially begun with the launch of the Youth United Track and Field League.

The league is a national youth competition designed to bring together private schools, public schools, and out of school youth on one inclusive competitive platform.

The ex-athlete, who is currently coaching in Iran, explained that he is currently home and will only head back to Iran when the situation gets better.

“The league is open to boys and girls aged 12-18 years and is found on the belief that talent is not defined by background, school, or circumstances,” he said.

“By removing traditional barriers to participation, the Youth United Track and Field League aims to provide equal opportunity for young athletes across the country to compete, develop and be recognised.”

Amos, who was recently awarded the World Athletics level two coaching certificate, said the league is sanctioned by BAA.

All competitions are conducted in line with national athletics regulations to ensure athlete safety, performance credibility, and high organisational standards, he added.

Two competitions series are scheduled for March 1 and April 19. The Olympic Silver medalist said the league is about inclusion, development and unity.

“We want young athletes to believe that they belong in athletics, no matter where they come from. Youth United is about building confidence, discipline, and a strong pathway for the future of Botswana athletics.

“The league is more than a competition, it serves as a development pathway, helping young athletes gain structured competition experience while promoting values of unity, discipline and national pride,” Amos said.

He added that schools, coaches, young athletes and parents should become part of the initiative to continue developing the next generation of athletics talent in the country.
