Last week , BDP held its first public rally in 2026 and had a mouthful to say about the current regime.
In a heated moment of the rally, Siele was caught on record passing remarks to Assistant Minister of Water and Human Settlements Motsamai Motsamai.
“Akanya gore batho ba le kana, go nonne le Motsamai. Motsamai Motsamai wa lerapo la Sesarwa le e se ke lesupa gore le na le mahura mme le na le mahura,” he said.
Which loosely translates to: “Imagine that out of all people, it is Motsamai who gained. Motsamai Motsamai, who is of Basarwa descent, is not known for gaining significant weight.”
The statement sparked a public outburst, which led to BDP apologising to the tribe and Batswana at large. A day later, Siele extended his apology.
In an interview with Mmegi Online, Xukuri highlighted that they will not accept the apology of BDP and that of Siele for the statements they made, as they truly undermine them.
“These are shameful words by Siele, and this shows the lack of respect they have, as in essence they are implying that Basarwa are just bones and not supposed to gain weight, practically just nobody,” seethed Xukuri.
On behalf of Basarwa, Xukuri further bemoaned that people should desist from shaming the tribe as it is equal to any other grouping in Botswana, and they won't accept the apology.
“We ... would never forget what they said. So with that, we do not accept their apology at all,” Xukuri said.
