According to Goodhope police, the incident was reported on Saturday after the parents of the minor, who is a student at a junior secondary school in Lobatse, discovered that she was allegedly sexually involved with a known adult male in the area. The parents subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Goodhope Police Station commander, Superintendent Mogogi Mathaba, said following the report, police commenced follow-up investigations, during which the teenage girl was taken to Goodhope Primary Hospital for medical examination.
He stated that investigations are ongoing and that police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the suspect, who is currently at large.
“The police, together with parents, are fully engaged in various community forums where students are being addressed on the importance of taking their studies seriously and refraining from engaging in love relationships at a young age, as well as other unlawful activities,” Mathaba said.
He further revealed that parents have also been encouraged to work closely with social welfare personnel to help address social challenges affecting children and families within the community.
Police have urged members of the public to report cases involving minors without delay to ensure timely intervention and protection of children.
