Kasane Police Station commander, Superintendent James Maabong, said search operations have been ongoing since Friday in the river channels and surrounding islands at the Chobe–Zambezi river junction.

“Since Friday, we have been searching for the missing man, and on Sunday, whilst the search was still in progress, his belongings were found by the riverbank. The items included a pair of trousers, a jacket, and a mobile phone,' he said.

Maabong said police suspect that the man may have removed his clothes with the intention of swimming in the river, after which something may have gone wrong.

He added that disaster response teams comprising the Botswana Police Service, Botswana Defence Force, and the Fire and Wildlife departments are currently on the scene assisting with the search operation.

Police investigations and search efforts continue as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance.
