Serule police are investigating a public transport accident involving a Sprinter bus that left nine people hospitalised with serious injuries following a crash in Foley village on Saturday morning.

Serule Police Station commander, Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang, said the accident occurred at around 8:40am along the Phikwe–Francistown route.

Kgosiemang explained that the Sprinter was travelling from Phikwe to Francistown carrying 24 passengers. “The Sprinter was following a horse and trailer truck, and the driver attempted to overtake. However, it appears he did not have enough clearance as another horse and trailer truck was approaching from the opposite direction. The driver swerved to the outer lane, lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned,” he said.

As a result of the crash, nine passengers sustained serious injuries, mainly to the head, and were rushed to Francistown Academic Hospital and Mompati Private Hospital, where they are currently hospitalised.

Kgosiemang said the remaining passengers escaped with minor injuries and were treated and released on the same day.

“There were no fatalities recorded in the accident,” he added.

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
