Netball zones to decide on league

The uneasiness is due to other clubs having not played some of their matches, which could disrupt the completion of the first round. When the league started last year, some clubs did not travel to Maun due to logistical challenges they shared with the National Executive Committee (NEC). Over the weekend, Notwane did not fulfil its fixture against Jwaneng.
According to information reaching Sport Monitor, the club had informed the zone about the challenges they faced especially the absence of players as the majority of them were students who had not returned from the festive season break.
Asked about the progress of the league, BONA president, Mpopi Motlhagodi told Sport Monitor that she will have to get alignment from Zonal Committees, who are the ones responsible for running the league.
Meanwhile, Southern Zone matches were played over the weekend at BONA courts. It was a closely contested affair between BDF Cats and cross town rivals, Police. BDF picked a 47-35 victory to continue seating comfortably in second position behind Jwaneng.
Police coach, Tshegofatso Latto Monyama, said the game was difficult because players have just returned from festive break and they only trained for three days.
“They tried their best but combinations were not working. We should go back and train hard. We were easily losing balls more especially that we were playing against a star studded team and some of them were part of the national team that competed at the Africa Netball Cup 2025 in Malawi.
“We should work on our mistakes if we are to do well in the second leg. The other challenge was that in other departments, my players were short, and on top of that some of the players are absent,” Monyama said.
Cats coach, Kagisano Mawela said it was not a convincing win because they started training on Tuesday and they were not the entire team. She expressed her disappointment towards the style of play by her players.
“Our attack was not perfect and our defense was also shaky. It was a bad start for us, as time goes on we will prepare better. Fitness was a challenge which affected tactics and players could not follow instructions.
“Both teams were not playing to the way one would expect from the two sides. We cannot go to the second leg in this format,” she said.
Mawela said the plan is to win the league as they have all resources to compete and win, and if they fail to lift the trophy, it will be down to her side.
