Police say the duo had travelled to Mosolotshane to welcome the New Year and were drinking alcohol at a local bar when a fight reportedly broke out between them and a group of local youths.

Shoshong Police Station commander, Superintendent Boemo Bok, said police received the first report a few minutes before midnight after the 17-year-old boy was stabbed with a sharp object on the left side of his chest.

“While nurses were still attending to the teenager, police received another report involving his companion,” Bok said.

He explained that in the second incident, the 22-year-old man was stabbed twice with a sharp object.

“We do not know who exactly stabbed them, but there are reports that they were attacked by a mob of young men from Mosolotshane,” Bok said.

Both victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment in a local clinic.

Bok further stated that the deceased were residents of Shoshong who had been staying at their lands (masimo) in Taukgolo before deciding to go to Mosolotshane to celebrate the New Year.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to locate and arrest those responsible.
