The exhibition marked the culmination of a documentary project that brought together six local artists to explore the meaning of ‘Home’ through art and collaboration. It formed part of the Contemporary Art Botswana 2025, a project that began nearly two years ago to highlight and expose exceptional artistic work being created in Botswana for both local and international audiences. Six artists were given spaces, materials, and time to create both collaborative and solo works while their creative journey was documented for the international market. The exhibition's facilitator, Ann Golifer, explained that Linnaeus Sanitas was held with the intention of supporting and nurturing young artists by providing them with a platform to showcase their work to Batswana. “We aim to host young artists, encourage them and allow their work to be seen, appreciated and recognised locally and internationally,” she said.
Gollifer further stated that the reason she started the project and co-founded Sanitas was that when she was a young artist, she lacked a platform to showcase her work. However, she would like to give these local stars an opportunity to show their talent. She also said that the exhibition intends to open and expose young and local artists to international markets, as well as showcase the traditional side of Botswana through artistic works. The exhibition featured works by Diablo Santana, Karabo Maine, Kelebogile Marope, Moratiwa Molema, Naomi Lilian Loabile, and Totang Motoloki.
Together, the artists spent three weeks exploring the theme: Home, which resulted in 12 striking artworks titled: Lolwapa, Ko Motseng, Pollyanna-Lament, Home beyond Appearances, and I’ve found my roots by Diablo and Kelebogile that were displayed as the outcome of the documentary project. During the exhibition, multiple standout live performances infused the rhythmic energy, transforming the visual showcase into a multisensory celebration of Batswana’s identity. The artist’s emotive delivery, blending spoken word with traditional beats amid the artworks, drew viewers deeper into the theme of belonging, fostering intimate connections. This innovative fusion not only amplified the collaborative spirit but also reinforced the gallery’s mission to nurture young talent through immersive, community-driven experiences.
