The accident was reported at 12:05am in Gabane, Botswana Police said. The man, who was driving a Honda sedan and travelling alone, was heading towards Gaborone from Gabane when the incident occurred.
Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, said the driver sustained serious injuries.
He said the injured man was then rushed to Bokamoso Private Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Letsholathebe revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
However, preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a culvert.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours, to avoid accidents that continue to claim lives.
