He revealed that the legal fees for an urgent application, which had arisen from a court case over the Tlokweng 145 celebration, amounted to P150,000. Although the tribe won the case, Kgosi Gaborone explained that the attorneys who represented them still need to be paid.

“However, these funds will be recovered from those who took us to court, as they have lost with costs,” Kgosi Gaborone assured the community.

He emphasised that whilst the legal hurdle was overcome, careful management of resources remains essential for the tribe. Turning to the tribe’s developmental priorities, Kgosi Gaborone stressed the importance of the Batlokwa Fund in driving initiatives that contribute to job creation.

In particular, he mentioned plans to explore a tourism area, which the leadership believes has the potential to generate employment and economic opportunities for community members.

“To support this initiative, we are asking each household to contribute P200 every year towards the fund. This fund belongs to the tribe and will be managed with full accountability,” he stated.

He further explained that a committee has been appointed to oversee the fund, and it will soon brief the tribe on expenditures related to the 145 celebration and other community projects.

“Kindly cooperate with this committee,” he urged, highlighting the importance of transparency and collective responsibility.

In addition, Kgosi Gaborone shared plans regarding the late Kgosi Gaborone’s tombstone, assuring the tribe that they will be kept informed about the preparations and progress. On broader cultural matters, he emphasised that the Batlokwa across Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa meet annually to celebrate their shared heritage, exchange cultural practices, and strengthen inter-community relationships.

These gatherings, he noted, not only preserve traditions but also foster unity amongst the Batlokwa, regardless of geographic location.

Through these initiatives, Kgosi Gaborone encouraged active participation from all community members, emphasising that collaboration and commitment are crucial for the tribe’s growth, heritage preservation, and economic advancement.
