No. 13 District Traffic Officer, Superintendent Obonetse Matshego, explained the fatal accident occurred around 1am along the A12 road.

He said the area remains a concern due to bars that are situated on both sides of the dual carriageway.

The police chief revealed the victim, who was suspected to have been crossing from one bar to another when the incident happened, was certified dead on arrival at Nkoyaphiri Clinic.

Matshego urged pedestrians to prioritise their safety, especially at night, and only cross when it is safe to do so.

“Accidents that occur in this spot remain a concern as we continue to record cases of pedestrians hit by cars in that area. Most of the victims would be under the influence of alcohol.

“We plead with pedestrians to be cautious and understand that they are not allowed to walk on the road except when crossing at designated zebra crossings,” he said.

Matshego added that there are visible road markings in the area which pedestrians should use instead of crossing at random points.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
