The donation, made at Glen Valley Barracks, Gaborone, is intended to boost the morale of officers deployed across the country as part of intensified patrols and crime-prevention operations.

Receiving the hampers, BDF Commander General Mpho Mophuting expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, which he described as a meaningful act of solidarity for the men and women in uniform.

“People might think it’s a small thing, but for me and for the rest of the troops, it’s a wonderful gesture. Every journey begins with a small step, and that small step is here today,” he said.

He added that he hopes the initiative continues to grow in the coming years, noting that more companies are already showing interest in supporting the armed forces.

“Maybe next year, the entire parade square will be full of trucks offloading this, so that we can reach not only those in patrols but even those deployed along the borders,” he said.

Taking a moment to commend the dedication of BDF members, he said, “Let me thank our troops, the men and women in uniform, who make sure that we sleep peacefully at night as they navigate the rest of the country. For your patriotism and the service you continue to give, thank you.”

He emphasised that the BDF remains a ‘people’s defence force’ and encouraged more community and corporate involvement in supporting the institution.

“It might not be food, there are many other ways in which companies and Batswana can contribute towards improving the relationship between the communities we serve,” he said.

Sharing the same sentiments, Minister for State President Moeti Mohwasa expressed gratitude to the sponsors for stepping forward at a time when many households and businesses are struggling under economic strain.

“Today, I stand before you filled with gratitude and pride as we recognise the remarkable generosity of CA Sales, Clover Botswana, and Bokomo. In these challenging economic times, your commitment to giving back to our communities is truly heartening,” he said.

Mohwasa highlighted that the donation comes as the BDF and Botswana Police Service continue to jointly implement Operation Pabalesego, a national anti-crime initiative.

“The support from our corporate partners is invaluable. This act not only nourishes our officers but also strengthens the bond between the private sector and public service,” he said.

He commended the companies for demonstrating exemplary corporate citizenship and urged other businesses to emulate their spirit of partnership.

“Together, we can build a safer and secure Botswana. Let us celebrate and honour the generosity of our business community, not just today, but as an ongoing commitment to our nation,” he said.

Mohwasa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering stronger public-private collaboration, saying such partnerships are essential for enhancing community welfare and promoting human security.
