According to Assistant Superintendent Goletwa Kethamile, the assistant commander of Palapye Police Station, the officers caught the trio offloading the meat at one of the suspects’ yards in Palapye.
He said the men failed to account for the carcasses when questioned by the police. Kethamile revealed that preliminary investigations show the cows were stolen and slaughtered at a cattle post on the outskirts of Radisele.
“Investigations are ongoing to trace the owner or owners of the cattle,” he said.
He added that police are also searching for a fourth suspect who is still at large.
Kethamile urged farmers in Palapye and surrounding areas to be alert, inspect their herds, and report any missing livestock to assist with the investigation.
He said they continue to record cases of stock theft in the area, adding that the criminals usually target cows and goats, which are mostly stolen at night whilst kraaled and sold to butchery owners.
